Jacinta Kerketta
Poet and activist
Jacinta Kerketta (born 1983) is an Indian Hindi-language journalist, poet, and activist, recognized by Forbes India as one of the top 20 Self-Made Women in 2022. Her work addresses Adivasi identity, systemic oppression, gender-based violence, displacement, and government apathy. Raised in Jharkhand and Bihar, she graduated in mass communication from St. Xavier's College, Ranchi, and later earned a master's degree from Ranchi University. Kerketta became a journalist after witnessing unreported violence and worked for Dainik Jagran from 2010 to 2013. She received a UNDP award in 2014 and has been consulting for The Wire and Prabhat Khabar since 2019. Kerketta also promotes girls' education in Adivasi villages. Her writing highlights the industrialization of Jharkhand and its impact on Adivasi livelihoods. She has received multiple awards, including the Indigenous Voice of Asia Award and the CII Women Exemplar Recognition Award. In 2023, she declined a literary award from the India Today Group, criticizing media neglect of tribal issues.
